After nearly six years of planning, groundbreaking for the Carolina Field of Honor at Triad Park is Friday afternoon.
Marine Veteran Bill Moss said he planted the seed for the $5 million project memorial years ago and is looking forward to the vision becoming a reality.
“As a good Marine, I just rolled up my sleeves and pulled up my boot straps and we went to work,” Moss said. He said he believes the ground was meant for the project.
Moss and board members Karen Gerringer and Bob Knight said the memorial park has dual responsibilities to the public – to serve a as a place of remembrance and an educational tool.
“I’m afraid it’s being forgotten and this is a way to bring everyone’s remembrance in a visual way,” Gerringer said.
